Tips for Success

  1. To gain the full benefit of internet educational resources, explore resources from countries other than your own. The perspective of others will help you learn and grow.
  2. Always read the "about" section of any website—educational or otherwise. That will let you know whether the organization is non-profit, for-profit, or a government agency. The about section also gives information about funding streams, site editors and content policies. That will help you decide whether the site is truly educational or not.
  3. When using search engines, click on the links with .edu on the end first. These are generally from universities. This is beneficial for two reasons: information is more likely to be public, and more likely to be accurate.
  4. Online courses and tutorials are wonderful opportunities to learn at your own pace and stay fresh in your subject area.
  5. Before hiring a consultant, always ask for references. Talk to the references and thoroughly explore their experiences with the company.
